English – Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are virtual appointments (i.e. telerehab, telehealth) covered by insurance?

Most private insurance companies accept claims for virtual appointments, however please check with your specific provider first if you have any questions.

  • How do virtual appointments work?

The physiotherapist is linked up with a telehealth platform. We will provide you with instructions on how to download the required software – all you need is access to a phone, tablet, laptop or desktop with a camera.

  • Do I need a doctor’s referral for physiotherapy or massage therapy?

No, we do not need to see a doctor’s referral in order to provide physiotherapy or massage therapy treatments.

However, if you plan to claim your treatment under private insurance, certain plan providers (e.g. Sun Life, Manulife, Blue Cross) may require you to have a doctor’s note or a referral. We recommend that you check with your plan provider beforehand to see what their specific requirements are.

  • How do I know if my treatments will be covered by insurance?

Private insurance companies and/or plans have their own unique rules that allow for full, partial or no coverage for physiotherapy or massage therapy. You might also have the option of claiming your treatments under a spouse or legal guardian’s insurance plan.

As your insurance information is confidential, we recommend calling your plan provider prior to receiving treatment in order to determine if the costs will or will not be covered.

  • Do you accept patients that have been in a motor vehicle accident (MVA)?

Yes, our clinic does accept patients who have been involved in a motor vehicle accident (MVA). We have physiotherapists or registered massage therapists, massage therapists and administrative staff that are experienced in handling both treatment and the paperwork involved in these cases.

  • What should I expect during my first visit to your clinic?

If you are travelling by car, there is free parking in front of both our facilities. Our St Laurent locations is located close-by to OC Transpo bus route (#7) and our Orleans location is close to OC Transpo bus route (#30, 34 & 138)

Our facilities are fully accessible, and we have a private treatment room available upon request.

If you have not filled out our confidential intake form online, we ask that you arrive 15 minutes early to fill it out before your first appointment.

After your arrival, your therapist will invite you to the treatment area/room where you will have a brief discussion about your goals, needs and/or concerns prior to beginning treatment.

  • I have never had massage therapy before. What should I expect?

Your massage therapist may perform a short assessment at the beginning of your appointment to determine the cause of your symptoms and create a personalized treatment plan for you. After discussing your comfort levels, your therapist will leave the room to allow you to undress and get situated on the massage table. Our massage treatments take place in a private room, on an adjustable table with clean sheets and blankets. Pillows can also be added or removed for your comfort.

During the massage, your therapist will check in with you periodically, however feel free to speak up any time if you have a question or concern. When your massage is over, your therapist will leave the room to allow you to dress. They will then re-enter to discuss your treatment plan, to recommend personalized remedial exercises, and to answer any questions you might have.
